Well, this is an utterly ridiculous way to claim that China could wipe the floor with the United States. Let's look at some other metrics, shall we?
* Plastic producing ability (there's as much plastic in some modern weapons as there is steel
* Rare earths and silicon availability (you need that stuff to make the weapons smart)
* The number of completely disposable young men to stand between the enemy and any given objective
Actually, none of the above makes me feel any better.
However, we lead China in the all-important warfighting category of "social incentives and pressure on young men to make themselves available to older homosexuals," so that has to mean something.
We should negotiate the reunification of China now, while we can still negotiate. I think the only chance we would have in a shooting war short of nuclear engagement would be to send two dozen ICBMS with **conventional** payloads into the face of the Three Gorges Dam. Ideally, China would retaliate by wiping NYC, Washington DC, and San Francisco off the map, at which point we could consider the war won and the country immeasurably strengthened as a consequence.
I used to be shit-scared of Chinese when I mentally modelled them as Europeans who have been humiliated due to the imperial issue and are now getting strong again. WW2 Germany but with actual enough industry to win.
After spending a 4k hours over a few years playing with/against them in a 24/7 running permanent world, no rules (no PvE zones anywhere) shooter/logistic game, I'm not too worried about them. They're different. Less aggressive, noticeably more industrious, maybe slightly less creative. Definitely more aesthetically inclined.

It is the official stated position of the US that China is the only China and Taiwan isn't a real country. I think this view is moderate and the Taiwanese will eventually just be part of China. Don't know why our politicians say other things when they're in their cups.
